Welcome to our Club Development Section where we hope to keep you up to date with any club-focussed news, training or opportunities that we have planned. We will also share with you London Swimming’s plans for Club Development in the region over the next 12 months.

As well as using the results of the Swim England Club Survey, we would also like to hear from you with what training or development needs your club has, so that we can plan a regional programme that meets those needs. To give us a starting point, if you haven’t already done so, please ensure your club has filled in the below form and returned to london@swimming.org

Upcoming Courses

Team Manager Module 1 Workshop

Saturday 24th June 2017 at The Lodge Crystal Palace 
Team Manager training is designed to ensure that anyone taking groups of athletes to competitions or camps locally is fully equipped to fulfil their role. The training is ideal for those individuals who are already doing the role of a Team Manager, or those who are due to take it on.

“You Said, so We Did!”

For all of you that filled in the ASA Club Survey 12 months ago, we wanted to share with you what club development initiatives and ongoing work we have rolled out over the past 12 months to help address the challenges and issues that you said your clubs faced.

“Identifying and Sourcing Funding” – 2 x Funding Workshops delivered in partnership with London Sport on how to perfect a funding application and methods to secure sponsorship.

“Recruiting Volunteers” – delivered a London Region Young Volunteer programme to educate, train and enable young people to begin volunteering at their local club.

“Training and Upskilling of Staff and Volunteers” – delivered a comprehensive programme of training including Level 1 and 2 coaching courses at a heavily-subsidised rate, again thanks to a contribution from our partner London Sport.

“Identifying who can support our club!” – through improved and more regular communication we now know that 75% of clubs are familiar with our Club Development Team.

“We want to understand more about Disability Swimming” – 2 x disability development days, incorporating coach education and talent ID for swimmers, were delivered across the region.

Thanks also to all of you who took the time to fill in the survey for this year, we really do appreciate your feedback and we are currently using this information to shape our club development programme plans for the next year!


In London we have one Club Development Officer;

Esther Hill – esther.hill@swimming.org 

Esther is available to answer any queries, support you with any issues and assist with any club development related work.
In addition to this officer, London Swimming has a regional Club Development Committee whose role is as follows;

1.     Work within the London Region Strategy and the committee’s delegated budget
2.     Set and drive a strategy for cross-discipline club development and support in London
3.     Ensure effective collaboration between disciplines
4.     Co-ordinate and deliver a comprehensive training programme to meet the cross-discipline needs of the clubs
5.     Help to communicate information from the Region and Swim England 
6.     Appoint and supervise appropriate managers, office-holders and working groups (including London Swimming’s representative on the Swim England Club Development Group and, if necessary, a SwimMark panel)
7.     Consider London Region SwimMark submissions
8.     Advise the London Region on club development issues
