Swim 21

Welcome to swim21 – the ASA’s quality mark for Clubs!

swim21 accreditation is the ASA’s recognised kitemark for the development of effective, ethical and sustainable affiliated clubs.

The opportunity to gain swim21 accreditation is available to all clubs, across any aquatic discipline (including Masters), regardless of size and activity delivered. swim21 is about creating the best possible swimming experience for all and raising the quality of aquatics provision across all areas.

swim21 club also offers national recognition that clubs are providing a quality service for all members, which is recognised by Sport England i.e. all clubs gaining ASA accreditation will automatically receive Clubmark status. Clubmark is widely recognised by potential funders, schools and other partners that can assist with club growth and development.

September 2016 and the ASA announced a change to the swim21 club Essential module accreditation after feedback from the annual ASA Club Survey. The survey illustrated that more than 60 per cent of clubs wanted to see swim21 Essential extended from a rolling annual programme to a two-year accreditation with a simplified health check.

The headline changes to the swim 21 process are;

1. From December 2016 each Essential accreditation will last for 2 years with an interim Health Check incorporating 5 elements only
2. The number of swim21 Essential elements will reduce from 21 to 16 due to several elements having been combined
3. There are no proposed changes to Network and Performance modules/elements at this stage.

More details can be viewed here.

In May 2013, swim21 changed to a three module system for recognising quality in aquatic clubs:

1. swim21 club Essential is a key module which will support clubs to grow membership, develop volunteers and ensure the sustainability of activity in line with the objective of the club.
2. swim21 club Network is the second of three modules to be launched. The aim of swim21 club Network is to quality assure clubs who work collaboratively to deliver the athlete pathway in their area. It will assist in identifying gaps in provision and opportunities available for clubs to increase and sustain membership.
3. swim21 Performance Environment provides a benchmark for clubs coaching high level athletes across all four disciplines (Swimming, Diving, Waterpolo and Synchro)

Frequently asked question:

Q – We are a swim21 accredited club, how do we find out our Clubmark ID number?

A – This used to be available on the old Sport England Clubmark page, but that no longer exists. All information on Clubmark now sits within the new Club Matters website. In order to find out your Club’s ID number (which can sometimes be requested when you’re applying for funding or are wanting to use the Sainsburys Active Kids vouchers for example), you’ll need to follow the below steps;

1.     Go to the Club Matters website here and either Register or Log On.
2.     You’ll need to make sure you link yourself to your club/organisation.
3.     Once you’re logged into your profile, go to the ‘My Club’ menu on the top toolbar and go down to ‘Edit My Club’ in the drop down menu.
4.     At the bottom of this page you will find your club’s Clubmark number. Please note if your number isn’t showing here then it is probably because your profile isn’t attached to your Club.
