Breaking News:
London Swimming has called a Special Council Meeting <http://www.londonswimming.org/news/article/display/235> to consider a resolution to allow the investment into a company that manufacturers mobile pool. The meeting will take place at Southbury Leisure Centre, Southbury Road, Enfield, EN1 1YP on Sunday 16th March at 12.30 pm. All swimming clubs have been mailed with details and delegate forms. Any clubs not receiving this information can download it from our website (see above).

Colin Brown (RD) Last week: The highlight of last week was the endorsement of 'A strategy for getting London Swimming 2008-2012+' by the Greater London Authority and off to the printers. The final version is now available to download from our website www.londonswimming.org <http://www.londonswimming.org> and a hard copy will be out soon. Coming a close second was the opportunity to speak alongside Derek Wyatt MP and Jenni Price (CEO of Sport England) at a launch event for the Parliamentary Sports Fellowship. As part of which Stephen Hammond MP is currently shadowing London Swimming and his next day will be visiting Manchester to see the world short course championships and mobile pools in action at the beginning of April. Running a close third was a visit to the Synchro High Performance centre at Aldershot to meet with National Performance Director Biz Price and see the duet in training. This has given me a much clearer idea of what the discipline needs to develop in London and was time well spent.
This week: Colin will be visiting Manchester accompanying the Olympic Security Unit in meeting the organisers of the World Short Course Championships to look at accreditation and transport arrangements. With 130 countries attending the event in early April it is a real opportunity to look at procedures on a scale similar to that of the Olympics <http://www.manchester2008.org/> Colin will also be attending the Pro-Active West 'Board Away Day' to check and challenge their assumptions on how aquatics can develop in West London.

Ben Campion - is on annual leave

This week, Janna Callan (RDO) met with the Performance Director for Synchro, Biz Price and gained a better knowledge of the Long Term Athlete Development pathway for a synchronised swimmer.
Next week Janna will be attending the Greenwich Swimming Masterclass. Then on Tuesday evening Janna will be meeting with the strategic disability swimming group, which includes represenation from London Sports Forum and Halliwick.

Hopefully everyone is a Sunday Times reader and will have seen the article that Jo Melchior (EDS - Lewisham) assisted with, looking at the lack of elite black swimmers globally. If not please use this link <http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/more_sport/article3382208.ece> Take an opportunity to read the "sister" article on the related link "Filling a black hole" as some of you may recognise the name of one of our international visitors to the Lewisham project, and indeed London Swimming, John Cruzat. Never one to miss a media opportunity Jo has been working with the Health Editor of the Metro to develop an article on the benefits of swimming as an exercise option for people with back problems.
Next week sees time put aside for Jo and the Laban Brown design team to work on the development of an awareness campaign for the NDC area of Lewisham along with completion of end of year returns to funders. Also Jo will be catching up with the Rainbow group (Refugee & Asylum Seekers Charity) and looking at upskilling one of the parents to become a swimming teacher in order that they become self sustainable. And there will just be enough time to squeeze in a meeting with the Lewisham Chidren's Rights Society to look at putting information in their magazine and delivering a Women's Health session for the African Community Partnership (ACP).

Last week Cathy Carr (RDO) attended the Northolt Community and Sports Development consultation which sees the exciting new re-development of Northolt Swimarama, due to open in 2010. Over the February half term last week, Aqua Extreme (multi-aquatic) events took place across the West of London, including the new Aqua Teen girls water aerobic sessions in Ealing and Harrow. Sport England has confirmed funding for the future of Aqua Extreme in the West. See http://www.londonswimming.org/news/article/display/229 for more information. Cathy also attended the first West London NGB forum hosted by Pro-Active West which was informative and interesting.

Next week Cathy will be meeting with Suzanne Philpot and the Hillingdon School swimming steering group to review the TOP UP's programme and school swimming across Hillingdon. Cathy will be attending the North London Leadership programme and the North London Stakeholder Event, both at Lee Valley Athletics Centre. Towards the middle of the week Cathy will be attending the National Swim 21 panel and meeting with Mark Grigg's to discuss the Aqua Extreme funding implementation and attending a staff theme day.

Last week flew by for Annabel Kehoe (EDS-Islington). She began the week by collating and analysing the responses from Liquid Swim Programme participants. So far, the demographics show an even spread between genders and a considerable variance in age. She also spent time with fellow Everyday Swim Coordinators in Loughborough where they all met with Kate Sargant, Jon Glenn and Anne Adams-King, all from the ASA. The week was concluded with a very interesting session on Facilitation run by Yvette Heywood.

Next week Annabel will be working to meet several deadlines, and meeting with several key partners.
