London Swimming Annual Conference – 14th September, St Paul’s School
The date is set and an exciting programme is coming together. Get the date in your diaries, there will be master classes for all disciplines run by Olympians and elite coaches, youth council, parents workshop on supporting your athlete, update on 2012 Legacy of the Olympic Aquatics Centre and much more.
London Swimming’s Waterpolo Referees Course
Grade D is the new basic level course for referees and falls in line with National Occupational Standards at Level 2. Dr. Chris Freebury, the international referee who has been responsible for the development and recruitment of water polo referees and table officials, will deliver the course.

European Junior Championships
Congratulations to Xavier Mohammed of Bexley SC who took the Bronze medal in the 400m Freestyle in a personal best time of 3:54.21. Mohammed had set a new PB to make it to the final but was able to improve on that time again in the final but comes home with a medal, behind winner Pal Joensen of Faroes and Alex Di Giorgio of Italy.
Colin Brown (RD): This week Colin met with Greater London Volunteering and Pro-Actives services about advertising outside the sport for volunteers. This will feed into the Competition Workforce launch planned for our Annual Conference on September 14th at St Paul's School. Colin was also interviewed for BBC London Radio about the Olympics and London. Colin also inputted into the draft 'London Legacy Plan for Sport' to ensure it has a strong swimming component. Colin also met the new Club Chairman for Waltham Forest Swimming Club and finished the week with Westminster Borough Squad.
Next week: Colin is spending time in Newham with Stephen Hammond MP to look at the results of the quality assessment, meet with the University of East London and Newham Academy and Volunteering services and view the Olympic Park. Colin also has meetings with Bromley Council and Bromley Mytime to discuss 'A strategy to get London swimming 2008-2012+' and the free swimming offer.
Last Week Mark Griggs (EO) attend a meeting in Loughborough to discuss the IOS presence on the British Swimming Website. He also met with Hillingdon to discuss with them becoming part of the IOS Delivery Network

This week Jo Calvino (Aquatic Programme Development Co-ordinator) has been confirming final details on this years Annual Conference which takes place on September 14th at St Paul’s School, SW13 9JT, we now have Olympians confirmed for the day. Jo has also been finalising dates for some Synchro and Diving squads and development days, and will soon be starting to put together ideas and planning master classes across all disciplines for the future.
This week Janna Callan (RDO) has visited each centre in Barking and Dagenham to establish where opportunities for improvement in the Get Wet: Swim for Free project are.
Next week Janna will be volunteering at the Multi Regional Synchro Camp as a coach and working on the Get Wet: Swim for Free launch in Barking and Dagenham for the end of August.
This week Islington kicked off its summer holiday programme, and Annabel Kehoe (EDS - Islington) has been really pleased with the attendance at a number of the activities, with numbers being up from last year’s summer. The biggest success story has been the free swimming lessons funded by Islington Council, which Annabel coordinated this year. The enrolment increased by over 50% and actual attendance is already looking to really improve upon last year’s figures. Annabel worked throughout the week on several upcoming marketing campaigns, and various national documents. Annabel also met with Paul Williams, Camden and Islington Competitions Manager, to show him the Mini Water Polo, Aquafun and Flip’n’Fun activities that are included in Super Swim.
Next week, Annabel will be ensuring that all activities are running smoothly and that all loose ends are tied before she flies to Beijing at the end of the week to support her youngest sister compete at the Olympics for Australia in the rowing women’s eight.
This week Jemma Konuralp (Swim21 Quality coordinator) has turned her attention to preparing her workshops for the Annual Conference on 14th September. Next week she will be continuing with this along with constructing a Swim21 section on the London Swimming Website
